Ehhh, its okay. People are crapping on it but its mediocre at worst. Disappointing though, from the director of Gone Baby Gone and The Town I hoped for something great.

Worth watching once for Natalie Portman but that is about it. She certainly deserves her Oscar nomination though.

Forgettable, colorful, thin plotted and charactered and full of bad pop music covers. I hope parents bring kids to a better animated film if they need the little monsters to shut up for an hour and a half. Zootopia, Dory, Kubo, the options are numerous, generic fluff like this is not needed to be on anyone's viewing list.

I found the underlying story to be an interesting one but I also found the narrative to be uneven, with the quick cuts given to the home lives of these three women, quick cuts showing racism in the early 1960s in the country and overdramatic scenes about racism in NASA itself. This culminates in Kevin Costner smashing the "colored restroom" sign in something so over the top that I couldn't stop myself give an eye roll. Subtle this film is not. I also have to wonder how much of this is accurate history and how much is Hollywood changes to increase the celebration of these black women, Katherine Johnson especially. Hidden Figures would have us think that she got John Glenn up to space single handedly! And got Glenn to trust her and her alone to run the numbers to get him back to Earth!
Still the film was entertaining enough that I can ignore the flaws and watch the effort to get a man into space with the help of those fighting against the ignorance of their time. If only it wasn't so on the nose!

The acting was fine by the entire cast but unfortunately I found nothing to grab me in this film, had plenty of cliches but they didn't even build up to anything that really held my interest, which was a shame. Spent more time on the situation that the girl and her family were living through and not on chess but I simply did not find their characters, nor that of her chess teacher to be at all engaging. So despite the good attempt I have to judge Queen of Katwe as a mediocre film that will have nothing in it to remember as time goes on. โ -

The "monster" certainly looked good and being voiced by Liam Neeson was a perfect choice to voice him but I simply could not get behind the kid or his situation. Blatant attempt at tear jerking that for the most part did not work for me because I believe of the child character being so unlikable. The film not being what I was expecting it to be didn't help either. Fortunately there was enough meat on the bone and enough in the performances in the adult actors to carry it so that it wasn't ever boring or too melodramatic.

As bad as this film was, yes the story was idiotic, yes the characters were 1D airbrushed models with no personality and yes it may just be the poorest YA garbage film made yet but none of this is the biggest sin that The 5th Wave commits for me. Worst of all is that it is just do dull. The first 15 minutes or so was alright as the opening "waves" struck in a disaster porn kind of way but then it became a grinding chore as the "plot" really began. Incredibly lazy, I really hope the source material isn't like this because I have to question any book fans taste if this film at all represents what was adapted. Certainly one of the worst films of 2016.

Its alright but there is nothing here to really remember. Passable romance with an average mystery in wartime setting.

I might be in the small minority who thinks this film is better than the first Jack Reacher. I found the first one to be ludicrous in its story from start to finish with fight scenes that did not work for me. This one was an improvement in that I was just feeling... bleh. I felt no real connection to what was going on but I was also not annoyed by anything either. Found this to be serviceable cable fare, nothing to recommend but not to rip into either. Slightly above average I suppose though I have to wonder if I will remember anything that occurred.
